Community Programs
In addition to student programs and school events, BESCA organizes volunteers for several initiatives that benefit our community. These programs include efforts to honor our school, appreciate our teachers and staff, and give back to the larger San Jose community through local charities. The purpose of these programs are to foster a sense of school pride, connectedness, and community spirit among students, parents, and staff alike.
Teacher Appreciation Week
The relationship between child and teacher is the most important one during the school day. Every May, we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week and BESCA works with room parents to organize themed events each day to show our gratitude and make our teachers feel special. In addition, we also host our annual Teacher Appreciation Luncheon during that week. This event gives our teachers the chance to enjoy a lovely meal together while we celebrate and honor their hard work and dedication to our students.
Monthly Teacher Treats
Another way we honor our teachers is through our Teacher Treats program. Each month, volunteers bring in treats based on a different theme, providing a delightful surprise for our dedicated educators. This program is a small but meaningful way to show our appreciation for their hard work and commitment to our students. It's a wonderful opportunity for parents to contribute and make our teachers feel valued throughout the school year.
Yearbook
The Booksin yearbook is a cherished photo memory book that highlights staff and students, showcasing daily life at Booksin. Managed by BESCA, parent volunteers from each class help document the year in pictures and layout the yearbook towards the end of the school year. Yearbooks are available for purchase each spring, providing a lasting keepsake of the wonderful memories made throughout the year.
Book Fair
BESCA organizes an annual book fair aimed at promoting reading among our students, while also raising funds for our school library to acquire new books. In collaboration with Hicklebee's, a local bookstore in Willow Glen, this event offers a wide selection of books for all ages and interests. Our teachers also create wishlists, providing an opportunity for parents to contribute by donating books directly to their classrooms.
Walk and Roll
Booksin proudly partners with the City of San José for Walk N' Roll Program. This initiative aims to promote walking and biking to school, encouraging a healthy, active lifestyle while reducing traffic congestion and air pollution around our school zones. We invite families and students to participate by walking or rolling to school.
Fall Food Drive
Each year, BESCA organizes a Fall Food Drive the week before Thanksgiving to gather food and monetary donations for Second Harvest Food Bank. This drive provides a valuable opportunity to teach our students about compassion and community service by helping those in need during the holiday season.
Book Exchange
Encourage your children to keep reading over the holidays with our annual book exchange! Held just before winter break, students from all grades can bring up to 5 books to trade. For each book donated, they can choose one to take home. Every student, regardless of whether they brought books to exchange, will have the opportunity to select a new book to enjoy. This beloved event is a student favorite, promoting reading and providing a fun way for kids to discover new stories without cost.
Treats for Troops
Join us for our Treats for Troops drive the week after Halloween. Donate your extra Halloween candy to support our troops overseas. Drop off your candy donations at the designated collection points. It's a sweet way to show our gratitude to those serving our country while spreading joy beyond our community.
5th Grade Promotion
Each year, we celebrate the achievements of our 5th-grade graduating class with a series of memorable promotion activities. These include a fun day at Golf Land, a special promotion breakfast, and a heartfelt promotion ceremony on the last day of school. These events not only honor our students' hard work and growth but also serve as important community-building moments for our school and families.
